Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about building, hosting, and owning your website with BlastChamber.net.

Getting Started

New to all this? Start here.

What does BlastChamber.net actually do?

We design and build custom websites, then hand them over to you — fully. You choose where the site lives: on our servers, in the cloud, on your own hardware, or on a third-party VPS. We set everything up, train you if you want to learn, and stay available for support.

Think of us as a full-service build partner. We don't lock you into a portal or a platform — once the site is built, you own it.

Do I have to host with BlastChamber.net?

No. Hosting with us is completely optional. We build it once, then you choose. Many clients host their own sites on GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, or a VPS they manage themselves. Others prefer the hands-off approach and let us handle monthly hosting, backups, and edits.

Whatever you pick, we set it up and make sure you understand how it works.

What if I want to switch hosts later?

You can. Your site is yours — we don't lock you in. If you started with us and want to move to self-hosting, we'll help you migrate to GitHub, your VPS, or wherever you want to go. If you started self-hosting and want to move to our infrastructure, we'll handle the migration too.

How long does a build take?

Standard sites (1 page) usually take 1–2 weeks. Pro sites (3–5 pages) take 2–4 weeks. Enterprise projects vary based on complexity — we'll give you a timeline in the quote.

Hosting Options Explained

Pick the path that fits your style. From fully hands-off to fully DIY.

What's the difference between self-hosting, cloud, on-prem, and BlastChamber hosting?

Host with BlastChamber: We run the server, handle backups, updates, uptime, and edits. You submit change requests through our contact form. Best for hands-off owners.

Cloud (GitHub Pages, Cloudflare Pages, etc.): Your site lives on someone else's infrastructure, but you control the code. You edit on your own computer, push to GitHub, and it deploys automatically. Free or very cheap, but you need to learn basic Git.

On-Premises: The site runs on hardware you own — a spare computer, a home server, a Raspberry Pi. You handle the hardware, power, network, and uptime. We set it up and train you, but we don't control it. Best for full ownership and learning.

Third-Party VPS (DigitalOcean, Linode, Vultr, etc.): You rent a virtual server from a cloud provider. You handle the subscription and basic administration. We deploy your site to it and set up the pipeline. Middle ground between cloud and on-prem.

Can I edit my own site if I host with BlastChamber?

No. When we host your site, all edits go through us via the contact form. This keeps the server secure, the backups consistent, and the deployment clean. If you want to edit it yourself, that's what the self-hosting and cloud paths are for.

What does "setting up my editing computer" actually mean?

If you choose a self-hosting or cloud path, we configure your computer (or a remote environment) with everything you need: a code editor like VS Code, Git, your GitHub account, and access to your hosting provider. By the end, you can edit a page on your machine, save the change, and have it live on your site in minutes.

For Pro and Enterprise builds, we include a training call to walk you through the whole workflow.

What do I need for on-premises hosting?

At minimum: a computer (even an old desktop or a Raspberry Pi 4+), a reliable internet connection with decent upload speed, and the willingness to keep the machine running 24/7. You'll also need a static IP or a dynamic DNS setup, and we'll walk you through all of it.

Important: BlastChamber can help you set up on-prem hosting and consult on hardware, but we don't sell hardware and we can't guarantee uptime for systems we don't control. Power outages, network issues, and hardware failures are on you.

Do I need to know how to code?

No — for the build itself, we handle all the coding. For ongoing edits, it depends on your hosting path:

Hosted with BlastChamber: Zero coding needed. Just describe what you want changed.

Cloud or VPS: Basic Git knowledge is helpful but not required — we train you.

On-Premises: You'll learn more, but we still set everything up and provide documentation.

Hosting, Backups & Maintenance

What happens after your site goes live.

What's included in the monthly hosting fee?

Every hosting tier includes:

Server maintenance — patches, updates, security hardening
Uptime monitoring — we know before you do if something goes down
Backups — daily automated backups of your site and database
Support — email or phone, depending on your tier
SSL certificate — HTTPS included, always

How do backups work?

All hosted sites get daily automated backups. Enterprise tier includes custom backup retention (e.g., 30 days, 90 days) — let us know what you need.

Backups are stored separately from the live site, so if something goes catastrophically wrong, we can restore from a recent snapshot.

What about SSL certificates and domains?

SSL: Included free on all hosting tiers. We use Caddy for automatic certificate provisioning and renewal — no manual work, no expiration warnings.

Domain: You'll need to register a domain (if you don't already have one). We can advise on registrars and help you configure DNS, but the domain registration itself is yours to manage and renew.

What happens if my site goes down?

If you're hosted with us, we monitor uptime continuously. The moment we detect an issue, we start working on it. For Pro and Enterprise tiers, this includes priority response and direct communication.

If you self-host, we can help troubleshoot via support, but response time depends on your tier and the nature of the issue.

Edits, Updates & Support

How changes get made once your site is live.

How do I request an edit if BlastChamber hosts my site?

Use the contact form on our site. Select "Edit Request for Hosted Site" as the purpose, include your domain name, and describe the change you want. We review edit requests regularly and will confirm the timeline with you.

Simple text changes are usually quick. Design changes, new pages, or new features may require a separate quote depending on scope.

Are there limits on how many edits I can request?

Small content edits (text changes, image swaps, link updates) are generally included in your monthly hosting. Larger changes — adding new pages, redesigning sections, building new features — fall outside hosting and would be quoted as a separate project.

We'll always tell you upfront if a request falls outside your hosting tier.

What if I'm stuck editing my own site?

Email or call us. We offer support even for self-hosted clients — your tier determines response time and channels (email vs. phone, business hours vs. 24/7). We're here to help, even if you took the DIY path.

Billing & Contracts

The boring but important stuff.

Do I have to sign a long-term contract?

No long-term contracts. Monthly hosting is billed month-to-month and you can cancel anytime. One-time builds are paid in full before (or 50/50, depending on project size) and the site is yours forever.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards, PayPal, and Venmo. Monthly hosting is billed automatically on the same date each month.

Annual prepay discount: Pay for a full year of hosting upfront via Venmo and save 5%. Just reach out and we'll set it up.

Do you offer refunds?

For one-time builds: we offer a satisfaction guarantee on the initial design draft. If you're not happy with the direction, we'll revise. Once the site is approved and deployed, builds are non-refundable since the work has been delivered.

For monthly hosting: you can cancel anytime and we'll prorate the final month.

Can I see examples of your work?

Yes — check out our testimonials page for live examples of sites we've built.
